Bio

Sizani Baloyi is a Johannesburg based visual artist. He was born in Giyani, Limpopo. Baloyi completed a three year visual arts and printmaking course at Artist Proof Studio in Newtown, Johannesburg where he won the council of chambers competition. He is one of the artists who was selected to work with Strauss & Co to rework the old masters’ work of Jacobus Hendrik Pierneef. He graduated in 2017 and took part in a 6 months internship with William Kentridge. He is now a full time practicing artist and one of the participants for the TAF Unearthed mentorship program.

Baloyi’s work tells a story of hope, dreaming for a better future for South African citizens who are still less privileged living in harmful conditions and struggling to get places of settlements. The style and technique in his body of work ranges from drawings, sculptures to prints. Baloyi’s work depicts the challenges that people are faced with and the hope they have in overcoming the difficulties they face on a daily basis. He focuses on telling the stories of individual families who continue to remain resilient despite residing in informal settlements, in hopes that tomorrow will be a better day.
