Samson Mnisi the “Rainmaker” was born in 1971 in Lesotho, Samson studied Fine Art and
photography at FUBA Academy. In his long art career Samson has collaborated with many artists
around the world across various disciplines of Art, and his artworks are in local and international
collections. He has had numerous groups and solo exhibitions, locally and internationally such
as University of Johannesburg Art Gallery, Gallery 2, Brooklyn Academy of Music to name a few.
His last body of work was showcased for the first time after his passing at the Investec Cape Town
Art Fair 2023.
Samson’s works allow viewers to explore areas of need to listen to the earth's higher symphony
and beyond. His work has a strong African fascination, but never isolates the world in a form of
tribalism. His spiritual expressionism dances with ancestral abstraction. Every mark and
brushstroke created signifies Mnisi's connection with the creative process. Samson Mnisi
mastered abstract composition in a variety of ways of application that differentiate each work
according to its individual stand and expression. His mark making is a signatory and iconic with
each shape, splash and drip that gives endless interpretation to his work.
