Presented by Turbine Art Fair, in partnership with the Forum Company and Business and Arts South Africa (BASA), Stilled Life is a community photographic project and platform for South Africans to tell their stories of life in the time of COVID-19.
COVID-19 has amplified social imbalances, highlighting much of what needs fixing and healing in South Africa. Yet even through this jarringly unprecedented time, moments of hope, love and care continue to contrast despair.
Its in response to this that Turbine Art Fair, a non-profit organisation, has launched Stilled Life. This pandemic has affected each and every one of us but in very different ways, and through this competition we can give South Africans a platform to share their stories and experiences, and at the same time contribute to the Artists Relief Fund. At times like this, art really does matter, says Turbine Art Fair founder, Glynis Hyslop.
Entrants are invited to submit their own photographs under one of the following three categories:
#YourStory: Personal experiences of life in the times of COVID-19.
#NewNormal: A nod to the humanitys ability to adapt, adjust and accommodate.
#Helping Hands: Stories of generosity of spirit and humanity despite challenging times.
The top 100 photos will be selected by a judging panel made up of Greg Maloka, Musa Nxumalo, Savannah Feeke-Fortune and Greg Marinovich and exhibited online at the Turbine Art Fair, which will take on the form of a virtual fair later this year. The selected photos will then go on to be auctioned by Strauss & Co, with all proceeds going to the BASA Artists Relief Fund.
Entries opened on 4 June and close at midnight on 19 July 2020. To submit your photograph, visit zealous.co/turbineartfair.
