Q&A with JEANNE HOFFMAN
Presented by SALON NINETY ONE
1. Do you have any preferred or recurrent subject matter that you tend to revisit in your practice?
Im always interested in the place between painting and drawing. I am happy with a work when the painted mark retains something of the freshness of a drawn line. A work is finished when it is balancing on the edge of becoming something else. I like to think that my work is a poetic response to the things one sees from the corner of your eye while looking at something else. I collect image fragments all the time and compile them into little collages. A piece from my collage archive is always the starting point for any work, painting or sculpture.
2. Whats the most valuable lesson you have learnt on your journey as an artist?
Just do something, the rest will follow.
3. What is your favourite colour palette at the moment?
Midnight blue and grey-green sea foam.
