Art & Collect
At Art & Collect we aspire to support, uplift and set the stage for contemporary established and emerging artists around South Africa and globally. We work in collaboration with Gordon Froud, the head of the Fine Art department at the University of Johannesburg and the head curator at Art & Collect, in the composition of our exhibitions. We also work in collaboration with other partners to host sculpture-, printmaking- and other workshops to encourage the education and upliftment of various skills amongst eager and curious artists.
Our workshops cater for people from all different backgrounds – artists, aspiring artists, general public, young, old, etc. – by providing a space where artists are allowed the opportunity to create and exhibit their works in a professional and inclusive environment.
Our exhibitions present works that deal with a wide of variety of issues that range from identity politics, African modernism, Afrofuturism, gender biases, colonial and decolonial traits, and many more. It is also a great space where potential investors can acquire South Africa’s new, modern and highly collectible art and, in many cases, at the start of artists’ careers.
Our aim is not only to create opportunities for emerging artists, but also to create a space for the public to have a taste of South Africa’s contemporary and innovative artworks.
