Raymond Fuyana was born in 1995 in Zimbabwe. He moved to South Africa, Johannesburg in 2009 seeking a good deaf school. He attended St Vincent School for the Deaf in Rosebank. While at St Vincent he worked with artists at the Bag Factory for a year. Fuyana joined the Saturday Youth Portfolio Development at Artist Proof Studio in 2015 as he was still in school.
Fuyana participated in the Strauss and Co. commission called Pierneef Interpreted in 2017. He made beautiful watercolour monoprints which were exhibited alongside Strauss and Co.’s collection of Pierneef original works at Turbine Art Fair. In 2018 he won the 1st prize in the printmaking category for the Strauss and Co. Irma Stern still life competition. The work was exhibited and sold out the Turbine Art Fair. This was followed by a wonderful article in the Sowetan on his journey as an artist.
