Phemo Matlhabe is a contemporary artist who was born 1991 in South Africa and is currently based in Johannesburg, he is largely self-taught artist. He describes a great “event” at the age of three having being the reason to devote his time to art making. His art practice translates esoteric African mythology, spirituality and indigenous oral histories into artistic interventions. His exhibition titled “Morwalela” at the 2020 Turbine art fair focused on his explorations of indigenous value systems, cultural hybridity and the complex intersections of African and Western culture
