Bio

Heidi Mielke is a visual artist from Johannesburg South Africa. In 2015 Mielke completed her Masters in Fine Art at the University of Johannesburg in which she engaged in research about the role of art in addressing the horrific levels of violence against women and children in South Africa. Mielke is extremely passionate about uplifting people which has led her to her current place of employment at Artist Proof Studio (APS) as a second-year education co-ordinator/lecturer. Apart from her lecturing career, she has exhibited in a number of exhibitions, including having her first solo exhibition at the 2017 ABSA Klein Karroo Nasionale Kuntstefees in Outshoorn South Africa. Mielke has also received various awards including Merit awards for both the ABSA L’Atelier Art Competition and the Thami Mnyele Fine Art Awards. Mielke works predominantly in printmaking, drawing and painting. Her pieces often explore all aspects of printmaking including alternative photographic processes of cyanotype, van dyke as well as photopolymer drypoint and non toxic etching techniques.
