Danna Crous

Danna Crous

Bio

Danna Crous is a young South African Artist working in mediums which highlight material and found objects, often blurring boundaries between painting and sculpture. Growing up in a rural area in Kwa-Zulu Natal, power lines and urbanized areas were scarce in a day-to-day life.
Moving to Stellenbosch and studying in 2016 as a young adult, the transition was found to be intensive. This acts as the initial influences to her body of work, as she becomes interested and fascinated with the industrial landscape. Perhaps because it was so new. There is a sensitivity to these urbanized areas which emerges in her work. It acts as the driving force behind her process, as she responds to everchanging environmental conditions, and feelings of tension, placement and displacement which coincide with it.

She completed her Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts from Stellenbosch university in 2020 with distinction, taking into account both practice and theory. Danna was the recipient of a number of scholarships throughout her studies, including the highly competitive Henk Seymour bursary. In January 2021 she took part in AVA galleries ‘Greatest Hits” group exhibition in Cape Town, where her work was exhibited alongside other graduate’s from across the country. She is currently living in the Western Cape, taking part in a few public mural projects, as she continues to develop and evolve her practice.
